HANDICAP POLICY

Up until now handicaps have been based on the Standard Scratch Score (SSS) for the course with club players using their club handicap in most cases. Reductions have only been applied where players return scores better than the SSS.
As we play courses that we are not familiar with winning players often return scores below SSS and there are no reductions in handicap.

In an attempt to give all players a chance of winning trophies a new handicap system will be applied.

All players will play to their Society Handicap.

Handicaps will be based on:

Base Score = Average Score + Average Deviation

Nett Difference = Base Score - Players Score

New Handicap = Old Handicap + (Nett Difference * Handicap Adjustment)

Where Handicap Adjustment is:

This will result in a reduction in handicap for the top 3 to 4 players and a slight increase for the rest.

Increases in handicap only apply where the Nett Difference is greater than 2.

Maximum handicap as from 22/04/2021 will be 54 for all players.

Where a member has been absent from Society games for 12 months or more and their Club Handicap
differs from their Society Handicap by 3 or more then they should play to their Club Handicap.

Adjustments may be made to the above system if it is felt necessary in the light of experience.
